Weekly Small Group Guides: STREAKS – Week 3
Big Idea of the Series: “Streak” will encourage your students to create routines that matter. On social media, a “streak” is when users are active for days in a row. Will we create “streaks” in our own pursuit of discipleship and sanctification?
Week 3 Bible Reference: 2 Peter 3:14-18
Topic: The Responsibility of Growth
Big Idea of the Message: Learn from the mistakes of others so that you can grow spiritually.
Key Statement:
- MS: The better I know God personally the better I can follow Him intimately.
- HS: My present decisions will determine my future destination.
ICE BREAKER: Have you ever believed something to be true only to find out it wasn’t? Have you ever been deceived?
Discussion Questions:
2 Peter 3:14
- What is one thing that stood out to you from this week’s verses?
- According to Peter, what are the dangers or not being careful about what we learn, believe, and live out?
- Why is it important to grow spiritually?
2 Peter 3:15-18
- It’s our personal responsibility to put ourselves in the best position so that the Holy Spirit can help us grow. According to Paul, what should we do and what should we avoid? (obey what we know and be careful not to be careless with what we don’t -deceived).
- We grow better together, Paul encouraged others with letters, we should encourage each other too. Sharing what we know and asking questions about what we don’t.
- What are ways in which we can be more disciplined this week?
- Reminder: Encourage students to be patient. The Holy Spirit is the one who “grows”. Some things Paul wrote were difficult to understand!
